The Arctic is warming faster than many other parts of the planet, changing access to sea routes, resources and strategic geography. The region also connects North America, Europe and Asia.

For the United States, Arctic policy involves Alaska, maritime security, scientific research, infrastructure and cooperation with allies. Climate change adds urgency because environmental transformation can create both opportunities and new risks.

The Arctic illustrates a broader geopolitical principle: geography is not static. As technology, climate and transportation change, places that once seemed peripheral can become strategically central.
